Spark City World... What Went Wrong?

About Spark City World / All Girl Arcade -
Spark City World- also known as All Girl Arcade was a virtual online game aimed towards preteens and teens. Gaining popularity in 2012, SCW was a website where girls, (and boys) could express them selves creatively and meet friends all across the globe. Spark City World was first seen being inactive in 2015 shortly after the safe chat update mentioned below. The website was abruptly closed in March of 2017.

Spark City World was a website adored by many. It allowed users to have fun with their friends, while making good and bad fashion choices and decorating their virtual apartments. Though the creators were not updating as frequent; or at all, the website being closed all of a sudden came as a shock. A year later the question still remains.. What Went Wrong?

Let's break it down, shall we?

Overprotective Safe Chat -
Spark City World has always had a more controlled chatting system compared to other online virtual games. However, in 2015 the website decided to make chatting even more strict, beyond what could be described as "controlling" making it nearly impossible for users to hold a normal conversation, without sounding like NPC robots at least. The second the update hit the website users left in dozens at once, causing a great loss to the SCW community.

But why did Spark City World take these measures, what happened? In 2014 a user by the name of Pinklilac came into play. Pink was manipulative, evil and pure dangerous, at least that's what she made it seem like to other players. Pinklilac made the false claim that she had hacking abilities- And if anyone were to dare wrong her, she would hack them or their friends. Players believed her, obeying her every command. In attempt to get rid of Pinklilac players reported her multiple times for bad language. Pinklilac had a total of 20 accounts which were taken down by these reports, equaling to about a 100 reports for foul language. Once the creators saw the amount of reports they were getting for one single issue they took matters into their own hands and created the safe chat.

Months after Pinklilac's actions All girl arcade blocked the words "Pink" and "Lilac" from being used in the same sentence. In this video these two girls give a brief explanation as to what Pinklilac was doing. As you can see, she had players afraid, controlled and chased for a year. More about Pinklilac and what really went down with her in an upcoming article

In April 2017 we had the opportunity to talk to PinkLilac herself- Jamie, the mastermind behind the account. She spoke proudly of her accomplishment, saying "It was everything I wanted". Jamie explained how she wanted users to suffer for their bullying and arrogance, however she had no means for the website to be shut down.

Bankruptcy -
A few months before Spark City World was shut down the creators of the game Fuel Industries filed for bankruptcy. Much wasn't said about this or why it happened, but it was because of poor business moves and lack of money flow/success. One of the reasons could be SCW's downfall.

The official documents on the bankruptcy here - Estate No. 33-2276663 IN THE MATTER OF THE BANKRUPTCY OF ...

The Failed Petition -
Last year, a user created a petition on change.org for Fuel Industries to bring Spark City World back. With only 100 signs as the goal, it should've been easy. However, the petition failed to reach it's goal, landing only 66 signatures. With such low demand for the websites revival it isn't a surprise the website was shut down, and from the looks of it wont be coming back any time soon.

Spark City World was apart of many of our childhoods. From the Rebecca Bon Bon days to freaking out when you saw a click star on the streets, they were memories well made. Even though the website no longer exists there are alternatives, MovieStarPlanetStardoll and Roblox are equally as fun and addicting.
